Aleksandr Georgievich Gulyaev

(Rubtsovsk, 1917 - 1995, St. Petersburg)

Aleksander Georgyevich Gulyaev was born in the Rubtsovsk, Altai Providence on September 11, 1917. He was a Soviet Painter of the St. Petersburg Union of Artists. In 1933 he entered the Tashkent Art College. Upon graduation he arrived in Leningrad and entered the facility of painting at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In 1941, Gulyaev volunteered for the military and participated in the defense of Leningrad. Shortly after, he was demobilized for injury, and in that same year resumed class at the institute. He graduated in 1946 and was admitted into the Leningrad Union of Artists. He painted a wide variety of genres, including but not limited to portraits, genre scenes, landscapes, battles and many more. At the turn of the 80’s and 90’s his works were included in the exposition of Leningrad artists that were presented to European audiences at a number of foreign exhibits. He died on June 22, 1995 in St. Petersburg at 78 years old. His works now reside in museums and private collections in Russia, Japan, The United States and other countries.
