Alexei Mozhaev was a Soviet Painter and art teaching who lived and worked in Leningrad. He was born in 1918 in a suburb of the city of Saratov. He entered the painting department of the Leningrad Institute of Painting Sculpture and Architecture in 1936. He graduated ten years later, after the Great Patriotic War. Upon graduation, he began participating in Art Exhibitions. He was known for his paintings of portraits, genre scenes and historical compositions. He also showed a great number of works that were pencil drawings and watercolors. He was a member of the Saint Petersburg Union of Artists as a representative of the Leningrad School of Painting. He went on to teach at the Tavricheskaya Art School and the Secondary School of Arts. He passed away in Saint Petersburg in 1994 survived by his artworks which are in institutions around the world.
