Colleen Lewis Parker

(Provo, Utah, 1927 - 2012, Bountiful, Utah)

Colleen Parker was born in Springville in 1927. She was a painter in oil and acrylics, a printmaker, and a pastelist. She began her art education while growing up in Springville, Utah, and had formal training at Brigham Young University, Iowa State University, and the Chicago Art Institute. Colleen Parker describes herself as a “perpetual explorer.” “Growth as an artist is a continual process,” she said of her craft. “All that I presently experience in my day-to-day work on location or in my studio becomes a part of this constant process of learning and growing.” Parker brings excitement and spontaneity to her work with a constant search for new ways of expression. She works in a variety of media, exploring designs and patterns naturally created in life, and she even developed her own approach of using pastel over monotype. Parker's work has been exhibited and collected locally and across the country, attracting awards in juried regional, national and international exhibitions.
