Bevan Moyle Chipman

(1934 - 2009)

Bevan Chipman was born December 30, 1934 in American Fork, Utah. He attended Brigham Young University for a year and a half and fulfilled an L.D.S. mission to Australia for two years. Following his return to Utah he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology in 1961 and a Master’s Degree in Social Work in 1963 from the University of Utah. From 1967 until his retirement in June 1995, he was employed as a social worker and counselor at Alta High School in Jordan District. About 1988-89, when he realized that he was retiring soon he decided to get serious about painting. He took classes and workshops from Kent Wallis, Ken Baxter, Ed Maryon, and Earl Jones. He had several solo exhibits and numerous group shows at the Bountiful Art Center, Art Access Gallery, Glendinning Gallery and several other galleries throughout Utah. He won a number of awards including two Best of Show awards with the Utah Watercolor Society.
