Arlene Nochissey Williams, b. February 9, is of Clifton, Arizona, and Provo, Utah. She is a famed Native American (Navajo) musician as well as an accomplished writer and visual artist (painting, drawing, and assemblage). She studied music and art at the Sante Fe Institute for American Indian Art and at Brigham Young University in the Visual Arts Department. She was the first Native American female singer to be nominated for a Grammy. She had a brief acting career and appeared in about 10 movies but then turned to focus on her family and her art.
