Lindsay Ruiz

(1980 - )

Lindsay Ruiz is an artist, dancer, and a full-time high school art teacher. She graduated in 2006 from Brigham Young University with a BA in Fine Arts, during which time she met and married her husband Miguel, who was born and raised in Mexico City. A desire to understand, cultivate, and participate in his Latin culture led to her involvement in the Latino folkdancing community. She has spent the last eight years traveling and researching the traditions and customs in Central and Latin America, and works with Latinos in Action, a non profit designed to empower Latino youth. Raising bicultural children, and working with/teaching Latino youth, made her keenly aware of the lack of Latino representation in her local art community. She completed her MA in Art Education in 2017, from BYU, where her research revolved around multicultural art education. As a way to bridge this gap, she has combined her love of Latino culture with her artistic talent to produce art that instills cultural pride and awareness in her audience. Lindsay’s work can be described as bright, bold, clean, and traditional. It is a fresh contemporary take on traditional themes. Her choice of color typically derives from the original folk attire from the regions depicted. She strives for authenticity in all of her work. Lindsay currently lives in Provo, UT with her husband Miguel and her four children. Besides teaching, painting, and dancing, her other passions include camping, hiking, exploring National Parks, and cheering her kids on from the stands.
