Warren Eliphalet Rollins
(Carson City, NV, 1861 - 1962, Winslow, AZ)
Warren Rollins was born and raised in California. He studied at the San Francisco School of Design, eventually becoming the Associate Director of the school. He moved to San Diego, where he began to paint Native American scenes, based off his travel throughout the Western United States.
His scenes of Native Americans became popular in 1917 as he was given a studio in El Tovar by the Santa Fe Railroad to paint the Grand Canyon. He traveled extensively though New Mexico, and was one of the first white artists in Santa Fe, where he lived off and on throughout his life.
He exhibited twenty five times in Santa Fe between 1916 and 1977. He was commissioned throughout his career for both commercial and consumer pieces. He taught at the Palace of the Governors and served as Santa Fe Art Club’s first president. He spent time in the 1940’s in Baltimore creating seascapes, primarily in crayon. He died at the age of 100 in Winslow, Arizona.
