Nechitailo was born in Nikolaevskoe, Rostov-on-Don province in 1915. He lived the majority of his life in Moscow and studied at the Moscow Art Institute from about 1936 until 1942. He began exhibiting in 1945. Some of his important shows include the "All-Union Art Exhibition" in the years 1946, 1947, 1949, 1951, and 1955; as well as "Soviet Russia" exhibition in Moscow in 1960. Nechitailo primarily painted historical-revolutionary subjects, scenes of country life, and portraits. He taught at Surikov Intitute from 1948 until 1956. Vasili K. Nechtailo passed away in 1980.
