George Thompson Pritchard

(Havelock, New Zealand, 1878 - 1962, Reseda, CA)

George Thompson Pritchard migrated from New Zealand to the United States. His work is primarily of painted seascapes and landscapes. He became a teacher after settling in California. Jane Wilcox was the name that he used for his still lives and florals whist producing paintings for the New York art houses, affiliated with department store sellers. He was known to sit in the basement of his house with the Victrola playing in the background blasting music, sitting in front of his easels and painting colorful figures. Around 1930 he left New York, was married, and moved to Virginia, later moving to Reseda, California where he passed away in 1962.
