Semen Aronovich Rotnitski

(1915 - 2004)

Semen Aronovich Rotnitski is a Russian born genre and figure painter. By the time he was eight years old he was studying art in Minsk, Byelorussia, where he was born. He continued his studies at the Factory Palace of Culture Art Studio in Tula, where his family had moved to. Four years later he was accepted to the Russian National Academy of Arts Institute in Leningrad for another four years of prep classes before becoming a student. Rotnitski exhibited his art in local, republican and national exhibitions. He joined the army when the Great Patriotic War began and was a member of the communist party within the year. In 1945 he returned to his education and graduated from the I.E. Repin Institute and joined the Leningrad Chapter of the Russian Artist Union. Rotnitski taught for twelve years at the Kazan Trade School of Arts, also serving as the director. He worked for sixteen years at the V.I. Mukhina Higher Trade School of Art and Industry of Leningrad. His own exhibitions were hung in many shows including the Leningrad Artists Union in 1991.
