Aleksandr Mikhailovich Gerasimov
(1881 - 1963)
Aleksandr M. Gerasimov was a painter of Socialist Realism who painted such figures as Stalin and other socialist leaders. From 1903 to 1915, he studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. After serving in the army during WWI and the Russian Civil War, he returned to his home and set up a studio where he continued to paint. His painting often favored a style of heroic realism, letting his later work slip into portraits of government officials.
