William Thomas McDermitt is best known for his landscape paintings and printmaking. He was born in Percy, Illinois on March 2, 1884. He moved to Southern California at a young age and graduated from Pomona High School and Pomona College. He continued his education in New York City, attending the Pratt Institute and the Art Students League. During the 1920’s he taught at Washington State College. He soon after returned to California to teach at the Los Angeles Businessmen’s Art Club. He often took his students on desert excursions. He works are very rare. He passed away in Los Angeles on December 4, 1961.
