The artists was born in Novoe Chervishche, Minsk province in what is now Belarus. He received no formal artistic education but was taken on to work at the LenIZO portrait studio in 1938-1941 and 1946-1948. He began exhibiting in Leningrad (modern St. Petersburg) in 1944 and died there in 1976.
