Vasili Nikolaevich Baksheev

(Moscow, 1862 - 1958, Moscow)

Vasili Nikolaevich Baksheev was born in Moscow in 1862. He studied at the Moscow College of Painting and Architecture from the late 1870's to the end of the 1880's. He was a member of several unions of artists in Moscow, and exhibited in many shows, starting in 1884. He returned to the Moscow College as an instructor in the mid 1890's, and later taught at several art institutions around Moscow. He specialized in landscapes and genre scenes. He received many awards such as the Stalin Prize in 1943 and People's Artist of the USSR in 1956.
