E. Keith Eddington

(1923 - 2007)

E. Keith Eddington was a graphic designer and a fine art portrait painter out of Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Lehi, Utah. As a youth, Eddington excelled in boxing and playing the coronet. During World War II, Eddington was a member in the 86th Infantry Division, known as the Blackhawks. Eddington was taught art by instructors like LeConte Stewart, Avard Fairbanks and Arnold Friberg and graduated from the University of Utah with an MFA in 1950. Two years after his graduation he joined the U of U's Art Department faculty, and eventually became the leading commercial-art instructor. Eddington was also able to pursue a successful career in design and in the 1980's became part of Brigham Young University's design faculty. At the time, the BYU design program was new, and Eddingtion helped establish the program by teaching and incorportating art classes such as graphic design, illustration, the history of writing, typography, bookmaking, and calligraphy into the curriculum. Keith Eddington married June Anderson in 1944 and had seven children together. He passed away in 2007 at the age of 84.
