Grigori Andreevich Goncharov

(Rossosh, Voronezh Region, Russia, 1913 - 2001)

Born near Voronezh on the 13th of January 1913, Grigori Andreevich Goncharov participated in WWII or as it is known in Russia in the "the Great Patriotic War". His paintings were notable for their patriotism and many included a military focus. He was known for his genre scenes and history paintings, but he also worked in landscapes and portraits. He often based work on the poems and lives of A. Koltsov and I. Nikitin. In 1950 he was accepted into the Union of Artists of the USSR. Many of his works are now held in the Rossosh Museum, in Rossosh, a town near his birthplace which adopted him as an honorary citizen
