Ivan Semenovich Petrov was a Soviet Ukrainian Painter. He was an honored artist of the USSR, known to master the battle genre, and was the artist of many dioramas in Ukrainian museums. He was born on October 7, 1924 in the Kirovograd region. Both of Petrov’s parents were artists which influenced the path that he took in life. In 1939 he entered the Kharkov Art College, but his education was interrupted from 1941-1945. He returned to his education after years of being mobilized and engaged in combat. After graduation he continued his education at Kiev State Art Institute from which he graduated in 1954. Due to being one of the greatest graduates, he was sent by the Ministry of Culture of the Ukrainian SSR to teach in the Crimean Art College.
