Gavin Hamilton Jack

(1859 - 1938)

Gavin Hamilton Jack was a New York—and Paris-trained painter and sculptor who worked in Manti (Sanpete County) and Salt Lake City in early days. He worked on the Panama Canal before arriving in Utah. He created four concrete lions for the Utah State Capitol Building, which once flanked its eastern and western doors.
