J. George Midgley was a master in the Bromoil Print, a popular method of altering photographic images in the early 1900’s. He often used artistic tonal relationships and rich textures to create moving images. The method was favored by photographers in the Pictorialist era ranging from around 1895 to 1920. However he used this method as late as 1975, at the age of 93. He passed away in 1979.
