Aleksei Tkachev and his brother Sergei, born in Chungunovka Russia in the years 1925 and 1922 respectively, were considered masters of Russian impressionism. Both graduated from the Surikov Institute and are full members of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, the People’s Artists of the USSR, laureates of the Repin State Prize and the State Prize of the USSR. They have been known to even work on the same canvas together. Despite their commonalities, each has his own distinctive style. Paintings of both the brothers have been shown in exhibitions around the world, including the Guggenheim in New York City and at the Smithsonian International Gallery in Washington D.C.. The two brothers currently live and work in Moscow Russia.
