Joseph Shepherd Wixom, b. August 6, is of Logan and Ogden, Utah. He is a talented painter in oils or acrylics as well as a fine pastellist. He served on the visiting faculty of the University of Utah Department of Art in 1974-75, and then in the same capacity for the Weber State Collge (WSU) art department during the following school year. After receiving abstract expressionist training, Wixom then experienced an almost complete reversal in stylistic orientation, his manner becoming a controlled contemporary realism that depends largely upon his solid knowledge of figure structure. An M.F.A. recipient from the U of U in the early '70s, Joe Wixom studied at the Kansas Art Institute too. He also taught art on the secondary school level.
