(Ogden, Utah , 1918 - 2004, Ogden, Utah )
Harry G Taylor of Ogden, Utah, is well known for his distinctive woodcuts, though he also works in etching and in photo processes. He was born August 17 in Detroit, Michigan, and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago where he received a Master of Fine Arts in 1949. He taught at St. Bonaveture-Olean in New york and at Weber State, and also held the position of art director for Meridian Publications in Ogden. He spent some time in the Pacific during World War II, and his experiences around tribal communities greatly impacted his artistic style. His simplistic yet bold works contain clear influences from primal African, Native American, and oceanic sources.
