He taught at St. Bonaveture-Olean in New york and at Weber State, and also held the position of art director for Meridian Publications in Ogden. He spent some time in the Pacific during World War II, and his experiences around tribal communities greatly impacted his artistic style. His simplistic yet bold works contain clear influences from primal African, Native American, and oceanic sources.
