Carolyn Ann Coalson
(1939 - )
Carolyn Ann Coalson is one of Utah's finest painters of abstractions. Originally from Ohio, this artist went to school in San Bernardino, Santa Monica (City College), and Cupertino (De Anza College), California, before study at the University of Utah began in 1976, where she earned a B.F.A. and an M.F.A. Coalson won a Utah Arts Council Purchase Award (Utah '85), and has shown her work at Whitmore Library, Phillips Gallery, the Salt Lake Art Center, and Waking Owl Book Company since 1974. It is the ongoing process of painting that provides this artist's greatest joy. She is a master of rich, delectable paint application, consistent and yet with endlessly subtle variety. Coalson is a member of the Utah Watercolor Society.
