Florence Maurine Truelson

(1901 - 1959)

Florence Maurine Truelson, of Salt Lake City and Provo, Utah, was a very talented artist who met a tragic end. In her early years she was a remarkably adept painter of pioneer heritage items for the "Index of American Art" during the depression, however, her art style changed quite drastically later in life. Her paintings were devoted more toward interesting fantasy figures. Her personal life was that of an eccentric and homeless loner whose residence was a shack she built on the west side of town from the scraps of existence. She was eventually committed as a patient in the state mental hospital in Provo; unfortunately and tragically, at the end of the 1950s, she wandered off one night and died of exposure.
