Richard Albert Miles of Fruit Heights, Utah, is a realist oil painter of Utah's landscape "grandeur" (as he thinks of the pursuit), in addition to a twenty-five-year career in the military and as a teacher. He was born on March 28, 1938 in Ogden, Utah. He began painting with oils at the age of ten, and has continued to do so ever since. He graduated from Utah State University in Logan, Utah in 1961. He then accepted a commission in the United States Army. Retiring as a colonel in 1986, he began his career as a landscape and wildlife painter.
