Susan Gallacher

(1946 - )

Susan Gallacher was born and raised in Salt Lake City, where she developed an early interest in art and studied at the University of Utah. In the 1970s, she began her career as an art teacher with positions in the Granite and Jordan School Districts. In 1984, she established Kings Cottage Gallery and Art School. She also teaches at the University of Utah Continuing Education Program and has had many solo shows, highlighted by one at the Springville Museum of Art. Gallacher is an oil and watercolor painter who specializes in realistic depictions of figurative genre, floral still life, and landscape painting in a brushy plein-air manner. "When I paint," she observes, "the weather, light, and fragrance in the air, my mood, all add to the spirit of the day and the essence of the painting experience." Her work appeared in the Utah Art Extra-Ordinaire show at the Springville Museum of Art in 1988. Her major exhibition The Homeless and their Shanties was shown at the SMA to much public and critical acclaim in 1998.
