Angelo Caravaglia
(1925 - 2009)
Angelo L. Caravaglia was born to Italian immigrant parents in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1925. He attended the Cranbrook Academy of Art from 1946-1950. One of Caravaglia's biggest accomplishments in life was obtaining a Fullbright grant to work and study at the American Academy in Rome. Caravaglia was hired in 1956 as a printmaker and three dimensional designers at the University of Utah. He soon became the head of the sculpture area in the art department; he retained that position until retirement. Caravaglia says, "my work is a combination of the intellectualized idea, design and craftsmanship... one cannot function without the other two."
