Aime Jules Dalou

(Paris, France, 1838 - 1902, Paris, France)

Jules Dalou was a French sculptor born in 1838. He studied at the Petit Ecole as well as the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. His political views in favor of the working man, specifically the Paris Commune, forced him into exile in England from 1871-1879. He was later named as a member of the Legion of Honor. Many of his smaller works represent the struggles of the working class, but he also created many political monuments for Paris. He died in 1902.
