Sharon Jensen Shepherd

(Salt Lake City, Utah, 1943 - )

Sharon Jensen Shepherd of Salt Lake City, Utah, and San Francisco, California, is an extremely interesting mixed-media artist and printmaker who has also served as a highly professional fine arts librarian. Sharon Shepherd, along with the late Dorothy Van Stipriaan, worked for years against overwhelming odds to retain a separate identity for the Marriott Library's fine arts section. Finally, inflation resulted in the library consolidating its book, periodical, and reference collections, but at the same time Sharon sought to maintain and increase the quality of the University of Utah's rather diffused arts research holding. Receiving her B.F.A. in drawing and painting from the U of U (1967), Shepherd also earned a Master of Library Science from Brigham Young University (1976). Having accomplished much as the U of U's fine arts librarian until 1986, this experimental artist now lives in northern California with her husband, although she continues to be an award-winning exhibitor of work in this area as well. She is also a sister of fellow artist Clay Easton Jensen Jr.
