Sergei Fedorovich Babkov was born in the town of Zlatoust in the Chelyabinsk province. He studied at Leningrad Intermediate Art School until 1941, the artillery college in Kostroma from 1941-42. After World War II broke out, he was deployed to the front lines in the fight against Germany. He was injured in the war, but participated in the capture of Berlin, and was awarded with several medals for his involvement in the victory. Following the war he studied at the Repin Institute in Leningrad from 1946-1952. In 1952 he was accepted into the Leningrad Union of Artists, and he was a member of the Grekov Studio (Leningrad Branch). Babkov painting mainly genre scenes, battle portraits and landsscapes. He began exhibiting his paintings in 1939. He passed awy in 1993 in St. Petersburg.
