Anna Coleman Ladd

(Philadelphia, PA, 1878 - 1939, California)

Anna Coleman Ladd was born in Philadelphia in 1878. Known primarily for her many sculptures, she also authored two novels. Most of her works were done after her move to Boston in 1905. In Boston she married Boston pediatrician Maynard Ladd and became one of the cities most noted sculptors. Her works included fountain pieces, potrait busts, memorials, and reliefs. Ladd also participated in humanitarian work. She founded the American Red Cross Studio for Portrait Masks in late 1917 in Paris. The studio provided cosmetic masks to men who had been badly disgured in World War I. Ladd passed away in 1939 in Santa Barbara, California.
