Born on January 28, 1928 in Moscow, Russia, Tutunov was a Russian artist who was a master in landscape painting. He was accepted into the Middle Art School and originally was studying sculpting. In 1949 he began studying at Surikov University and graduated in 1954. Just six years later and he was already recognised as a master of landscape art. Around that time he began tutoring and mentoring other artists. In 1977 he received the title of Honored Artist in Russia. In the eighties he began to paint more historical and religious topics. He still lives in and works out of Moscow and his works can be found in many museums in Russia and globally.
