Katherine Kientz Minck

(1950 - )

Katherine "Kathy" Louise Kientz Minck of Columbus, Ohio, Orem, Utah, and now out of the state of Utah. She is a watercolorist (transparent form) and painter in oils or acrylics who specializes in abstract expressionist, nonobjective formal, and visionary-spiritualistic creations. She earned degrees at Ohio State University (B.F.A.) and Brigham Young University (M.F.A.). According to the artist, as quoted by Ann Poore in her recent catalog entitled The Reality of Abstraction: Paintings in Utah 1946-1996: "Her interest lies in things that 'twist and intertwine around themselves and other things.' The geometric elements in her work depict 'the strings of our lives that come together to become the fiber of our personal uniqueness.'" Her Chi #1 (1993), exhibited in the related traveling show, is a fine piece of painted ghost-like "twine," binding a deep brown-and-green realm of painterly pictographs and deeper, more reflective forms together
