Jon James Bowcutt has lived in Ogden, Salt Lake City, and St. George in Utah, and in Montana. He is a realistic figure and portrait specialist whose works in oils can have a grand bravura flair. Bowcutt earned degrees from the University of Utah (B.F.A., 1982; M.F.A., 1986) and is highly regarded for his fine work by many patrons, colleagues, and friends. Yet, not all of these people may agree with what Bowcutt has been doing in art for at least a part of the last seven years. Around 1990, over a relatively short time, the artist's style moved dramatically from representation to abstraction.
