Layne R. Meacham

(Murray, UT, 1948 - )

Layne Richard Meacham of Park City, Murray, and Sandy, Utah, is an abstract expressionist, mixed-media painter in oils or acrylics, etc. As a youngster in Park City, Meacham took a number of classes from artist David Chaplin. He then dropped out of public school to paint. In 1967, he went into the Marine Corps and was sent to Vietnam. Living through all of that, he came home to go back to school, and chose social work as a career. Going to Columbia University in New York City and then the University of Utah for his master's degree, Meacham is now a counselor of adolescents and their families; he paints to shake off the stress of such work. His work is powerful and big enough to really cast a mood. He took more painting classes at Westminster College, the Salt Lake Art Center, and the University of Utah.
