Clay Wagstaff

(1964 - )

Clay Wagstaff was born in Kanab, Utah on September 7, 1964. His youth was spent in a semi-rural area next to a golf course, and his memories of the juxtaposition of the manicured course and the uncultivated land surrounding it have influenced Wagstaff's style. His paintings are intended to bring together harmony and chaos, using the concept of "Dynamic Symmetry", developed by Jay Hambridge, in planning out his works. Wagstaff is a tonalist semiabstractionist painter of the landscape in oils and graduated from Brigham Young University (M.F.A., 1992). He currently resides in Tropic, Utah, with his wife, fellow artist Rebecca Lee Wetzel Wagstaff, and daughters, and says of his work "I would like others to feel peace and order when they view my work, and perhaps, a desire to 'return home.'"
