Mary Clark Kimball Johnson

(Salt Lake City, UT, 1906 - 1994)

Mary Clark Kimball Johnson of Salt Lake City, Utah, was a graduate of the University of Utah (B.A., 1928; M.A., 1936). She was a talented painter, teacher, and lifelong participant in Salt Lake area art activities. An award-winning artist at exhibitions from the 1920s to the 1980s, she also served as a teacher in the Salt Lake City School District from 1928 to 1971. From the mid-1940s to the mid-1950s, the artist was an instructor for the Salt Lake Art Center's Art Barn School and then for the U of U's Division of Continuing Education. She followed that period with private lessons taught at her studio in downtown Salt Lake City's Constitution Building, and was president of an active and vital Associated Utah Artists group, centered at the Art Barn (Salt Lake Art Center at Reservoir Park) through mid-century.
