Grayce Elizabeth Solomon Cutler

(1906 - 1998)

Grayce Elizabeth Solomon Cutler, a student in Boston, Chicago, New York City (Art Students League and New York School of Design), and Provincetown, Massachusetts, under Hans Hofmann, also studied at the University of Utah in the late 1950's as an already-established freelance painter, interior decorator, advertising artist, and founder and past president of the Utah Creative Artists group. A busy exhibitor and winner of a number of prizes and awards for both her artwork and activities toward the advancement of the arts, she won the first national award in 1957 as a "Utah State Art director in furthering art" and, at the same time, a first prize for an article on Utah Professional League. This niece of pioneer painter Alfred Lambourne (q.v.) became a very experienced handler of transparent-watercolor and oil techniques used to create color-impressionist landscape scenes.
