Stephanie Wilde

(1952 - )

Stephanie Wilde, b. July 1, is of Coalville, Utah and Boise, Idaho. She is a printmaker and draftsperson who specializes in figurative symbolist images with visionary-spiritualist intent. Essentially self-taught, this talented artist does remarkable elegant pen-and-ink drawings. Her artistic journey began after the birth of her son and he was diagnosed with a rare blood condition. Because of his condition Wilde and her husband were keenly aware of the risks their son faced and Wilde became very interested in AIDS and began “The Plague Series” which drew a parallel between AIDS and the Black Death. Much of her art is related to AIDS and the people it has affected. Wilde has received three Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts through the Idaho Arts Commission, the State of Idaho Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts, and the Idaho Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. In 2015, she was given a prestigious Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant for painting.
