Walter Koeniger

Koeniger was born in Germany as the son of an architect. He began painting at the Dusseldorf Academy before relocating to Russia where was impacted by Russian realism. However, he turned to a more painterly and expressive technique when he moved to Woodstock, New York. Though he was not involved in the colony there, his ideal landscapes were exhibited at the National Academy of Design.
