Rosella Hartman was a Kansas born artist to German-Swiss parentages. Like her brother, Bertran Hartman, she studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago, and later at the Art Students League in New York. She received the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1934 and 1938 to study graphic arts abroad.
