Edgar was a watercolor painter, and shared his talents with others through both teaching and lecturing at the Pratt Institute, New York University, the Columbia Graduates Club, and many art organizations in the US. Before his career in watercolor painting and teaching he was in commercial art for twenty-five years, including five years as an art director and McCann-Erickson advertising company. He eventually went on to write a book titled Complete Guide to Watercolor Painting.
