Antonio Pietro Martino

(Philadelphia, PA, 1902 - 1988, Thousand Oaks, CA)

Antonio Martino was born in Philadelphia to Italian immigrant parents. He was one of eight children. His father was a mason and stonecutter and his other was a buttonhole maker. At the age of 13 he attended classes with his brother at the Graphic Sketch Club. He went on to study at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art. On the weekends he took courses at both the Spring Garden Institute and the La France Institute. By the age of 23 he had exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He and his brother founded Martino Commercial Studios. Here they provided a variety of fine art and promotion design services. All of the brothers participated in the family business. He would spend his mornings with his brothers on the weekends painting Bucks County, creating landscapes in a strong impressionist style. By 1971 he moved to California to paint seascapes and landscapes. He stayed there until he passed away in 1988.
