Prince Paolo Petrovitch Troubetzkoy
(1866 - 1938)
Prince Troubetzkoy was born in Intra, Italy on the 15th of February, 1866. He was a son of a Russian diplomat, and so his art was equally devoted to Italy and to Russia. He was a painter and a sculptor, and as described by G.B. Shaw was “the most astonishing sculptor of modern times.” He started his career in Italy but worked in Russia on and off again for almost ten years. At some point he had a studio in Paris, France, as well as both a house and a studio in Hollywood, California in the United States. He eventually returned to Italy in 1932, where he died in the town of Pallanza in 1938
