Ron Rencher

(1952 - )

Ron Rencher's youth was spent in a country life on the family ranch. After his father died, ten year old Ron and his mother moved from a small town in Utah to Orange County, California. Feeling out of place in this completely new environment, he was able to find solace and artistic inspiration in his father's paintings and old supplies, which had been kept in excellent shape throughout their years of use. Ron's interest in art continued through his schooling years, and in 1975 he graduated from Southern Utah State College with a Bachelor Degree in fine art. Following his graduation, Ron dedicated several years to focusing on the family ranch, but eventually decided that in order to pursue his love for art he had to devote himself to it "at least 100%". He gave the duties of the ranch over to his brother. Ron found inspiring vistas in and around Zion National Park, Northeastern Arizona, and the Grand Canyon. In 1984, Ron converted to painting in location in nature, following a workshop that focused on this method. Ron Rencher married Carlene Reeves, another artist, and they work together in critiquing and encouraging each others' work, finding mutual understanding in their lives together as artists. Ron teaches oil painting workshops and has been the recipient of numerous awards for his contributions to art. He now resides in Texas, and his works can be found in many collections, including the Buttram Museum, the Las Vegas Art Museum, and what is now Southern Utah University. Ron Rencher paints landscapes in oils and watercolor.
