Mel Leipzig
(1935 - )
Mel Leipzig is a unique artist from New York that paints in the genre of photorealism but with his own set of rules. He often takes sketches immediately of a scene instead of working from a photograph. He also uses acryllic paint in a limited palette of dark blue, dark red, yellow, and white creating intensely colorful paintings. In recent years, Leipzig has taken to adding visual distortion giving interesting perspectives to his work. A New York Times review of a recent exhibition of his work describes Leipzig "as a diarist, for his paintings are direct, honest, and unsentimental...He strives to show people as they really are."
