Aleksandr Leonidovich Korolev

(Soligalich, Russia, 1922 - 1988)

Aleksandr Leonidovich Korolev was born in the Volga town of Soligalich. Before the war he studied at the secondary art school at the Academy in Leningrad, and after some time was accepted to complete the full course. A number of monumental works in St. Petersburg and other Russian cities were based off his sketches. However, his main focus was teaching. He was known to be a very humble and outward focused individual. He worked as a professor of drawing at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. He created what is now known as “school Queen.” He taught students how to properly depict the form, and how to fit shapes into different angles. He taught them to see as well as show the nature of spatial volume. All of these concepts and more culminated to the method and system of concepts that he deemed most important for young artists.
