Zola Rae L. Ash

(Brigham City, Utah, 1926 - 2021, St. George, Utah)

Zola Rae Law Ash, of Brigham City and Provo, studied at Brigham Young University with B. F. Larsen (q.v.), Roman Andrus (q.v.) and Virla Birrell (q.v.) and attended classes at the University of Wisconsin. Her work appears in collections in Wisconsin, Virginia, and Utah, and exhibitions including those at BYU; in Madison, Wisconsin; at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.; and at the Springville Museum of Art. Teaching experiences cover classes for children and adults in crafts and paintings. Ash explored a variety of artistic approaches, including portrait, landscape, figure, genre, and various religious themes. She was primarily a painter of traditional realistic works in oil and transparent watercolor, though she also enjoyed many crafts. Ash died August 5, 2021.
