(Bristol, England, 1804 - 1854, London, England)

William Warner was a self-taught English artist who immigrated to the United States. He was converted to the LDS Church while in London, and he was employed as an artist by them once in America. He was assigned to paint and sketch views on the way to Utah from Nauvoo. Upon arrival in Utah in 1847, Major spent the next five years painting landscapes and portraits of other settlers and of Native Americans. He was called on a mission for the LDS Church to England in 1853, where he died a year later.
