Myra Grout Powell

(1895 - 1983)

Myra Grout Powell, of San Diego, California, Salt Lake City and Ogden, Utah, attended the University of Utah as a nineteen-year-old art student (1914-15), and then studied with Joseph Everett in the mid-1930s. Her career was one of remarkably extensive local painting exhibition activity, along with further study at Utah State University and in southern California. An Ogden resident, Powell joined several art organizations there and is well represented in Utah collections. The art gallery in Ogden's Union Station is named in honor of this artist, who mostly created modernist oil abstractions of an expressionist nature.
